Its purpose is to provide computer data back-up.
Hardware-based RAID solutions combine multiple hard drives in one hardware box, which is called an array.
There are two types of RAID architecture to consider: host-based and SCSI-to-SCSI-based (SCSI stands for Small Computer System Interface, a technology that is commonly used to connect computers to peripherals, networks, and each other). Both methods are equally reliable for back-up protection.
In general, SCSI-to-SCSI products are more flexible and scalable, while host-based systems are a bit faster.
